Further Information:
One of the largest wasp species in Europe, the insect can be found in garigue and valleys - especially where wild artichoke flowers are present. Adults feed on nectar. Females paralyse rhinoceros beetle grubs with their sting, laying an egg on each grub. Wasp larva devours the beetle grub upon hatching.
